Your smile’s appearance can carry significant weight with your sense of self-confidence. When a cavity forms on a tooth that is visible in your smile, it can leave you feeling socially awkward. Small cavities can often be repaired with a composite filling that matches the surrounding tooth enamel. However, a large cavity might require a porcelain dental crown to completely replace the entire tooth enamel layer.

Dr. Don W. Heyen can usually perform a restoration of this nature with two separate appointments. After the area has been sufficiently numbed with Novocain, he will use a drill to remove the entire the tooth enamel layer.

Dr. Don W. Heyen will take an impression of the abutment and the surrounding teeth. This will be sent to a dental lab where the porcelain crown will be custom made. A temporary crown will be secured onto the abutment to keep it safe.

You will need to come back for the second appointment after the dental lab technician has completed the crown. The temporary crown will be carefully removed and your new crown will be cemented into place.
